Island wrestlers came back from the Eastern Canadian Championships in Fredericton, NB recently with a number of medals to go with some excellent performances.

Five Island athletes competed at the Concordia Open Wrestling meet in Montreal.

Veronica Keefe and Trevor Banks, fighting for Concordia Univeristy, each placed first in their weight classes.

Stephen Clark fighting for Black Bears Wrestling club (UNB), place third.

McKenzie Sapier, wrestling for Black Bears Wrestling club (UNB), placed fourth.

Kent Hardy, wrestling for the Black Bears Wrestling club (UNB), place sixth.

Wrestling PEI had sent athletes to compete at the Cadet/Juvenielle wrestling National championships in Windsor, Ontario. The Island was represented by members of Rikidokan and Raw Wrestling clubs out of Charlottetown and Red Rock out of Montague.

Hillary Jones, the lightest Wrestler at the Nationals took home a gold medal for her efforts in the 38 KG class.

In the other free style events Lorena Ellis won a Silver in the Women 60Kg class. This result is another example of the strong season the RAW wrestling member is having.

Several Island clubs took part in the Eastern Canadian wrestling championships recently.

Clubs included Rikidokan, Raw, Red Rock, Summerside and a newly-formed club out of Colonel Gray High School.

Many Island wrestlers enjoyed very favourable results at the competition, including gold for Trevor Banks of Rikidokan in the under-54 kilogram juvenile men, silver and bronze for Halen Sky and Liz Lee of Colonel Gray, and bronze for JoJo Orsatti of the Red Rock Wrestling Club.

Wrestlers from Red Rock and RAW are attending the Jar camp in NB this weekend. Remember to save your receipts for some funding when you get back.
